A Relay/Protection Technician installs, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, calibrates, and verifies protective relay and control systems used throughout electrical power systems. THE FORGE SECURITY GUARD is a privately contracted security specialist assigned to THE FORGE, the first Pillar of Premortal Dawn and the civilization's center for Engineering & Applied Technology. His professional knowledge has transcended from the protection of electrical systems into the protection of technological civilization itself. He is responsible for maintaining the security of THE FORGE, controlling access to restricted areas, monitoring technological activity, responding to abnormal system conditions, protecting personnel and equipment, and securing technologies whose capabilities may extend beyond the understanding of ordinary citizens. His greatest responsibility concerns the massive machine-conscious systems preserved within THE FORGE—ancient technological systems that once participated in governing civilization. Most of these systems remain dormant. The Forge Security Guard does not assume that dormancy means safety. He watches. He verifies. He responds. He contains. He protects. He is not responsible for deciding whether ancient technology should exist. He is responsible for making sure that whatever exists inside THE FORGE remains secure.
